Last night saw the launch event hosted by Andrew Ross, Vice Chairman of Schroders Wealth Management and Richard Meddings, Chairman of TSB, for the most physically challenging project of their careers to date - a 1900km, 20 days, 6 countries cycle in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK, starting from Sussex and completing the journey in Kassiopi, Corfu.

Leaving on 8 September, from Ticehurst in Sussex England, Andrew and Richard will be joined by 14 other riders, many from the City of London all of whom will take up the challenge, including climbing and crossing the Alps and the Dolomites to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Andrew Ross, Vice Chairman Schroders Wealth Management, commented:

'None of us has attempted anything like this before. All of us are way out of our comfort zones; most of us are too old, not (yet!) fit enough and very frightened! Alzheimer's is one of the most significant medical problems of our time: in the UK alone, there are around 209,600 new cases of dementia every year, of which Alzheimer's is the most common cause. It is debilitating for the sufferer and even more so for the families who have to cope with the mental decline of a loved one. In spite of this, research into the condition - about which we still understand very little - is extremely underfunded.

'We are delighted and grateful to Schroders for providing generous financial support for this challenge which will now ensure that all money raised will be donated directly to Alzheimer's.'

Alzheimer's Research UK

Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity dedicated to diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.

Its passionate scientists and supporters are challenging the way that people think about dementia, and they work to bring together the people and organisations who can speed up progress and invest in cutting-edge research. They believe that medical research can, and will, deliver life-changing preventions, treatments, and - one day - a cure for dementia.
