Sime Darby Plantation Bhd. Chairman Abdul Ghani Othman has stepped down due to a change of nominee director by its largest shareholder, Permodalan Nasional Bhd.

Meanwhile, Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas was appointed as chairman, effective Wednesday, the plantation group said Tuesday.

Mr. Megat Najmuddin is currently chairman for a number of public and private companies and nongovernmental organizations, including Asian Pac Holdings Bhd. and the Malaysian Institute of Management. He is also president of Federation of Public Listed Companies Bhd.
