SIROWORLD 2016 was a top-class event: More than 4,000 participants from the dental industry met up between the 11th and 13th of August in Orlando, Florida. The three days were packed with exciting educational sessions, clinical training and premium entertainment. Participants were given a unique opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas with colleagues and experts from the dental industry while establishing new contacts.

Jeffrey Slovin, CEO of Dentsply Sirona, officially opened the SIROWORLD 2016.

Bensheim/Salzburg. 'Seventeen years ago I started my journey in dental. A lot has changed since then, but there is still so much transformation to come.' With these words Jeffrey Slovin, CEO of Dentsply Sirona, opened SIROWORLD 2016 and struck a chord with the audience. 'Dentists constantly strive to improve oral health,' said Slovin. Group Senior Vice President of the U.S. Commercial Organization Michael Augins and Director of Clinical Affairs and SIROWORLD host Mike DiTolla also welcomed the many visitors during the opening General Session.

During the opening session the participants were also inspired by leading dental experts Dr. Lyndon Cooper, Dr. Dennis Fasbinder, Dr. Sameer Puri, Shannon Richkowski, RDH and more. Throughout the event, hundreds of breakout sessions were led by esteemed clinicians, including Dr. Neal Patel and Dr. Tarun Agarwal.

More than 150 speakers led approximately 200 breakout sessions

The entertaining and exciting weekend not only featured training sessions and discussions on a variety of dental specializations, but on practice design and management as well. Dr. Agarwal, a well-respected dentist, author and lecturer, explained during his session how high-end technologies can be integrated and digital innovations used to provide patients with the best possible care. Dr. Patel, a dentist and expert for digital technologies in dental practices, spoke about how he optimizes 3D imaging and CAD/CAM for complex full-jaw restorations based on his many years of experience.

A success story unfolds

For the very first time DENTSPLY and Sirona jointly hosted SIROWORLD 2016 as Dentsply Sirona 'The Dental Solution Company'. 'We have accomplished a lot since the merger - strategically and operationally. With no doubt: we will advance dentistry through innovations,' explained Slovin, also referencing the announcement that the Dentsply Sirona company Midwest will be offering its customers in the U.S. market a wider range of equipment in the future with products from Dentsply Sirona Instruments from Germany.

First-class entertainment bolsters a great atmosphere

Each action-packed day concluded with a series of evening events. On Thursday night, Sir Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group, offered insight into his success story, technical innovations conceived through his company Virgin Group and the highs and lows of his life. Amongst other topics, he spoke about the social thoughts and ideas all business professionals should foster to lead a happy, successful life. Later, he he discussed his non-profit foundation, Virgin Unite, which is dedicated to tackling tough social and environmental problems and striving to make business a force for good. This entrepreneurial and sustainable approach was well received by the audience.

Following the inspirational appearance by Branson, the legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld performed a hilarious standup act late Thursday evening. The Grammy-nominated band OneRepublic rocked the stage with an exclusive concert for SIROWORLD attendees on Friday night and the audience enjoyed close contact with the band members. All those in attendance at SIROWORLD had a great time and are already looking forward to next year's event, which will bear the name Dentsply Sirona World and take place Sept. 14-16, 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Three questions for Dr. Mike DiTolla

Dr. DiTolla, SIROWORLD host, provided his outlook on this year's event.

What are your key takeaways?

The most satisfying part of SIROWORLD 2016 was the audience reaction to the meeting. It was difficult for me to walk more than 10 feet in the hotel or meeting space without being stopped by dentists or team members who wanted to tell me how amazing the meeting was. Of course this great event has to take place again next year.

What are you proud of?

I am proud that the meeting lived up to the hype, after all, we did bill it as the Ultimate Dental Meeting! We knew that we had all the pieces in place, but you still have to execute the plan and create the right tone for the meeting. Being the host of the event is truly a dream job for me, it feels like the job I was born to do. All the time and effort we, Dentsply Sirona, invested in the organization of the event were definitely worth it.

What was special about SIROWORLD?

Our dentists! They love the profession they have chosen and they are passionate about it. I feel the same emotional connection to the meeting that our repeat attendees do, and our sponsors and exhibitors tell us how much they love this group of dentists as well. This makes the event so special.
