Press release

Skanska has completed and opened the new LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall (Headhouse) in New York, USA. The opening of the Headhouse represents a major milestone towards completion of the LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Redevelopment, Skanska's largest project ever.

The new Headhouse is the central entry point for travellers flying out of Terminal B, with seamless integration to passenger concourses and gates, the new parking garage, and the Central Hall that connects to Terminal C and the planned future AirTrain. The building will transform the customer experience and streamline airport operations, unimaginable with the old facility.

'It's been exciting. We have really tried to change how people view LaGuardia by building a terminal that is open, efficient and that people want to stay in. This have been done while the airport has been operational, a fantastic achievement by the team working with the project,' says Anders Danielsson, President and CEO, Skanska.

The new Headhouse features an open floor plan with 18-meter-tall ceilings and a glass façade that floods the 80,000 square meter facility with natural light. The first floor includes a new ground transportation centre for arriving passengers, followed by the arrivals hall and baggage claim on level two, and check-in on level three. The fourth floor features shops, restaurants and other amenities, and concourse bridges.

Skanska is the lead partner of the Skanska-Walsh Joint Venture responsible for the construction and design of the new Terminal B. Skanska is also a founding member of LaGuardia Gateway Partners, selected by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to deliver and manage this extensive capital redevelopment project. The redevelopment at LaGuardia, one of the busiest airports in the U.S., began in 2016 and is slated for completion by the fall of 2022. It is one of the most complex, and the largest, project ever undertaken by Skanska.

Skanska is one of the leading construction and development companies in USA, specializing in building construction, civil infrastructure and developing commercial properties in select U.S. markets. Skanska USA had sales of SEK 74 billion and about 7,900 employees in its operations in 2019.
