Southern Co. (SO) on Thursday said high winds overnight from Hurricane Dorian have left about 15,000 customers of its Georgia Power unit without power.
The utility holding company said nearly 1,500 Georgia Power workers are responding to more than 250 individual cases of damage, including broken poles and downed lines.
Southern said most of the outages are concentrated in the coastal Georgia counties of Chatham, Glynn and McIntosh.
Hurricane Dorian was plowing up the South Carolina coast Thursday morning, causing flooding and power outages, after smashing through the Bahamas earlier this week.
