MWC AMERICAS – Spirent Communications plc (LSE:SPT), today announced that it has been approved as an Authorized Test Lab for CTIA IoT Cybersecurity Certification, a new testing program designed to confirm the security designs and capabilities of cellular-connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Spirent SecurityLabs collaborated with leading wireless operators, technology companies, security experts and other test labs throughout the development of the program’s test requirements and plans.

The program is based on IoT security recommendations from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Spirent has extensive experience in the security and performance evaluation of cellular- and network-connected IoT devices, is a prominent member of the IoT Community, and a sponsor of the IoT Slam conference. Bill Mortimer, vice president of strategic marketing at Spirent, is the current Advisory Board Chairman for the IoT Community.

“Threat actors have repeatedly demonstrated their skill at penetrating IoT devices in vehicles, hospitals, manufacturing plants, utilities and public infrastructure for nefarious purposes,” said Sameer Dixit, senior director, security consulting, Spirent Communications. “We have developed keen expertise in holistically assessing the security and performance of connected IoT devices and offer comprehensive testing services to vendors, deploying organizations and service providers. With the additional benefit of CTIA’s IoT Cybersecurity Certification, clients can better manage and protect their networks and important—and often life-preserving—devices.”

Spirent SecurityLabs currently offers comprehensive IoT security and performance testing and will begin CTIA IoT Cybersecurity Certification in October 2018 once the program officially begins.

SecurityLabs consultants will be available to discuss Spirent’s cybersecurity certification services this week at Mobile World Congress Americas, Stand S.2456 located in Hall South.
