SAN CLEMENTE - ICU Medical, Inc., a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture and sale of innovative medical devices used in infusion therapy and critical care applications, has successfully integrated the ICU Medical MedNet safety software to Spok Care Connect.
This integration allows clinicians to transmit and selectively filter alarms coming from ICU Medical's line of IV smart infusion pumps, including the 2018 and 2019 Best in KLAS Plum 360 and LifeCare PCA (patient-controlled analgesia), directly to clinicians' mobile devices.
Having alarm forwarding capabilities helps hospitals ensure priority messages are shared in meaningful ways, and critical patient conditions are triaged quickly. Integration between ICU Medical MedNet and Spok Care Connect can also help reduce alarm fatigue, improve response times and communications, and increase patient satisfaction.
'We are proud to include Spok as a part of our growing list of connectivity partners. By integrating with clinical alerting software, we can expand the clinician's visibility to infusion delivery, help with response times and support quiet hospital initiatives,'' said Matthew Hutchings, senior director of ICU Medical IV Informatics. 'Recognizing the significant value that interoperability brings to a hospital, ICU Medical has focused on improving integration in infusion therapy for more than a decade.'
Within the hospital, clinicians can receive alarm information from the Plum 360 or LifeCare PCA infusion systems on their mobile devices using the clinical alarm monitoring software from Spok. The alarm management technology also provides the ability to escalate alerts among clinicians when a primary caregiver is not available.
In addition to leveraging more than a decade of ICU Medical's interoperability, this integrated solution also utilizes Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) PCD-04 messages.
'Being able to reach the correct mobile team members within seconds of a critical infusion pump alert improves overall workflow, staff productivity and the patient's safety,' says Hemant Goel, president of Spok, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Spok Holdings, Inc. 'We are excited to partner with ICU Medical to provide this enhanced connectivity with the Spok Care Connect platform, which ultimately results in top-notch patient care.'
