SPORTS Direct yesterday appointed an auditor, two months after Grant Thornton quit as billionaire Mike Ashley's company's accountant. RSM will now take up the post. The auditor had most recently stepped in to look after Patisserie Valerie's accounts after the bakery chain became embroiled in an accounting scandal.
Grant Thornton left Sports Direct in August after the retailer dramatically delayed the publication of its latest financial results.
Separately, Sports Direct blasted the management of Goals Soccer Centres yesterday after the five-a-side football firm delisted from Aim following an accounting scandal.
Goals suspended shares in March after saying its results contained a misdeclaration of VAT, leaving a black hole in its accounts of more than £12m. Sports Direct, which is a shareholder in Goals, yesterday hit out at management for wiping out investors with the fault.
