Sumitomo Heavy Industries : SHI Secures Order for a 75 MW Dedicated Biomass Combustion Power Plant

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd.(President and CEO: Shunsuke Betsukawa; hereinafter referred to as 'SHI') has established a joint enterprise with NIPPON STEEL & SUMIKIN ENGINEERING CO., LTD. (Representative Director and President: Shinichi Fujiwara) and secured an order from Kanda Biomass Energy K.K. (Representative Director and President: Isamu Suyama) for a biomass power plant (output: approximately 75,000 kW; project location: Kanda-machi, Miyako-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture; hereinafter referred to as 'the Plant').
The Plant will use wood pellets as its main fuel source and is designed to be a high-efficiency, dedicated biomass combustion power plant that utilizes a reheating system (*1). Once complete, the plant will contribute to renewable energy development.
The Plant utilizes SHI Group's 'Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler technology' which has over 490 references (*2) globally. SHI's CFB boilers are capable of burning a wide range of fuels and demonstrate particular superiority in the biomass power generation field, commanding a high share of the market. This track record was a key factor in the securing of this order.
Through the stable combustion of biomass fuels and low-rank fuels, SHI will contribute to reductions in customers' power generation costs and provide sustainable energy solutions.

(*1) Reheating System: In this system, the steam that expands inside a steam turbine is re-sent into the boiler. By re-heating and re-sending the surplus steam into the steam turbine, high-efficiency power generation is achieved.
(*2) The SHI Group: SHI and its subsidiary Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW).
