SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation continues its scholarship programme at Tongji University
Second phase launched to help more underprivileged students complete their university studies

In line with the Building Homes with Heart philosophy, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation, established by Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP), has always spared no effort in caring for the less fortunate, which includes providing financial assistance to talented underprivileged students so they can pursue their studies, combat poverty and give back to society. To achieve this end, the Foundation established a scholarship programme at Tongji University in 2006 to help outstanding students with limited financial means complete their four-year university studies. To date, the programme has benefited nearly 1,600 students, most of them have achieved excellent academic results and secured desirable jobs. Because of the outstanding academic credentials, over half of the beneficiaries have continued their studies in master's degrees or doctor of philosophy degrees on the Mainland, or received scholarships from renowned universities abroad.

SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok and Tongji University Party Committee Secretary Fang Shou'en recently signed an agreement for the second phase of the scholarship programme. In an effort to further encourage scholarship students to achieve even better grades and get involved in social practice campaign, a newly added grant will also be awarded.

SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok said: 'The Foundation supports talented mainland students in their studies and promotes a broader spectrum of education in order to nurture talents for the country's future development. Some students' families have faced difficult financial situations and that is why we have established different scholarship programmes to provide education opportunities for them to learn, develop, and unleash their potential, hoping that they will give back to the country after graduation. As always, we will continue to support education development and nurture the country's talented youth.'

With over 110 years of development, the College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University is the largest in the country, providing the most comprehensive courses. The University has been assessed by the 'Double First-Class Initiative' as a world-class university with first-class disciplines. It has seven first-class disciplines: architecture, civil engineering, surveying science and technology, environmental science and engineering, rural and urban planning, landscaping as well as arts and design. The University has also taken up a host of important special projects on engineering science research topics for the country and has achieved remarkable results. To facilitate greater international cooperation, the University has created 11 globalized education platforms and signed collaborative agreements with over 200 overseas universities. It has also built research centres in partnership with various multinational corporations.

Tongji University Party Committee Secretary Fang Shou'en is grateful for the Foundation's continuous financial aid for students and its support for education on the mainland. He pointed out that the University has been able to successfully develop and unleash students' potential thanks to the support from various community sectors. As a result, the University is determined to put even more efforts toward academic research and education.

The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation is committed to nurturing talent in Hong Kong and on the mainland, and has been helping outstanding students with limited means complete their undergraduate studies since it was established in 2002. The Foundation offers scholarships at renowned institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University, Tianjin University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Southeast University, as well as education bureaus in various provinces. It also subsidizes students to study abroad or join overseas exchange programmes to broaden their horizons. More than 20 provinces have benefitted from over 30 training schemes sponsored by the Foundation.
