Sun Life Financial Inc. (SLF) on Thursday said it was enhancing its paid family and medical leave policies "to help employees better care for themselves and their families, including chosen family as defined by the employee."
The new programs cover all full- and part-time employees in the U.S., the company said.
Sun Life said employees will be offered four months of fully paid family leave to bond with a new child, to care for ill family members and to deal with matters arising when a family member is called to active military duty, among other things.
Birth parents will receive an additional two months fully-paid medical leave, the company said.
Employees dealing with their own injury will get six months-plus of paid medical leave, receiving full pay for the first four months, Sun Life said.
