The Jamshedpur Carnival got off to a flying start with the Carnival Parade which started at Jubilee Park and went on to Gopal Maidan. The main evening attraction at Gopal Maidan was the Dance Festival and the performance by 'Smart Steps' the renowned Dance Troupe.

The Jamshedpur Carnival Parade 2018 kicked off with a splash of colour, a variety music, acrobats and dancers at 2:30 pm from Jubilee Park. It was led by an open Gypsy carrying King Momo, the Emperor of happiness, and his entourage. He declared that the next four days would be days of happiness only. The motorbike enthusiasts roared into action and announced that more fun followed behind. On a trailer the Orient Express invited the audience to let down their hair and shake a leg to their Latin American rhythm.

The parade offered a glimpse into the city's heritage by showcasing the armoured vehicle manufactured by Tata for World War II and appropriately named 'Tatanagar'. The display included an Austin Princess A-135 from Tata Motors, a Morris 8 Saloon besides other vintage beauties.

In his inaugural address of the evening, Mr. Sanjiv Paul, Vice President Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel said; 'it is wonderful to see the youth of the city and other categories of citizens come together to celebrate the spirit of Jamshedpur through various performances. I'm also happy to know that we have representation from our other locations as well in which youth has come forward to showcase their talents. I hope you enjoy the events lined up over the next four days and keep on supporting this initiative'.

Speaking about the Carnival Parade, Mr. Ronald D'Costa, eminent citizen and one of the organisers of the Carnival Parade, said; 'The citizens of Jamshedpur were given a taste of the cultural life of the city with contributions from Tata Steel Urban Services, TSRDS and the Tribal Cultural Society. The procession spread the message of happiness from Jubilee Park via the Sakchi Boulevard to the Gopal Maidan where the artists entertained the enthusiastic audience.'

The eagerly awaited dance festival took place in the evening. Local schools, dance academies and out of town groups showcased their dances. Smart Steps, a nationally renowned dance troupe provided a spectacular performance in the evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Varsha Daga, member of the Organising Committee said; 'The Carnival provides a platform to schools and academies to showcase their talents and creativity. It is an unique opportunity open for all schools of Jamshedpur. Hope we can expand our horizons in the coming years.'

While the evening on December 15 was given to dance, the evening of December 16 will bring to the city amazing music, as finalists from the local Sa Re Ga Ma competitions held at various community centers, perform for audiences, and the evening will also feature a special session of music and songs by distinguished people.

Mr. Avneesh Gupta, Vice President Shared Services, Tata Steel and Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice President, Operations, Tata Steel Kalinganagar were also present on the occasion along with other distinguished citizens of Jamshedpur.
