LONDON, England, May 30 -- The International Marine Contractors Association issued the following news release:

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is to hold a Lifting & Rigging Technical Forum on 24 September in Amsterdam (Novotel Schiphol Airport) with the theme 'Offshore Lifting: Training, Certification, Competency'.

This one-day seminar devised by IMCA in conjunction with TechnipFMC provides an opportunity for IMCA members to participate in an industry forum considering both the human and technical aspects of crane operations in an offshore environment.

Free to attend for IMCA members plus invited guests this one-day seminar will consider current industry needs in terms of training, certification and competency requirements. Attendees will have the opportunity of participating in Q&A sessions and workshops and will therefore help formulate the programme going forward for IMCA's Lifting & Rigging Committee.

The seminar comprises four major sessions - "Background and Operators' Experience", "Training Facilities, Courses and Certification", "Supplier training and how new technology is introduced" and "Current and future challenges for Crane Operators and Riggers".

In addition to speakers drawn from IMCA member companies including TechnipFMC, Subsea 7 and Van Oord who will be joined by experts from OPITO, Enermac (Sparrow), OSC and Mintra Group. Sessions will be chaired by Mark Ford, Technical Director, IMCA, and Chairman of IMCA's Lifting & Rigging Committee, David Cannell, Technical Manager, TechnipFMC.

Mark Ford, Technical Director, IMCA sets out the aims of the event:

"This year's seminar will concentrate on Offshore cranes - with a specific focus on training, certification and competency. Combining both the human and the technical aspects of crane operations in an offshore environment. The forum should provide a strong view of current industry needs, training, certification and competency requirements and will help to formulate the programme going forward.

"The aims of the event include communicating the latest codes, products and developments and helping identify common issues and needs between offshore contractors. This can be fed into future development strategies and code/guideline improvements. This is an ideal opportunity to further discussions in the industry.

"We are looking forward to welcoming representatives from a variety of subsea contractors, offshore crane designers/manufacturers, equipment suppliers, crane training and academic institutions."
