RIGA, July 8 (LETA) - During the first half of 2020, the average smartphone data usage per SIM card in the mobile network of Latvia's Tele2 operator increased by 50 percent against the same period a year ago, LETA was told at the company.

Tele2 representatives indicated that the average smartphone data usage per SIM card in the Tele2 network has reached 15.2 gigabytes (GB).

According to the Tele2 representatives, the fast growth of smartphone data usage has been observed since the beginning of this year but that the increase was not on account of the coronavirus pandemic alone, as people's habits were changing as well.

"Data usage keeps growing by the year. We see this both in the average data usage figures and the growth of unlimited data tariff plans. The unlimited data tariff plans are by far the most popular," said Tele2 board chairman Valdis Vansovics.

As reported, Tele2 mobile operator turned over EUR 136.669 million in 2019, an increase of 4 percent against a year before, while the company's profit rose 2 percent to EUR 31.519.

Tele2, registered in 1995, has a share capital of EUR 3.486 million. Its sole owner is Sweden's Tele2 Sverige Aktiebolag.
