Jakarta, 30 August 2017 - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) is deploying all personnel 24/7 to focus on meeting the target to restore Telkom 1 satellite services, in accordance to the board of directors' directive on 10 September 2017 to provide the best service for the customers. More than 1,000 technicians from TelkomGroup across Indonesia are involved in the process.

Telkom President Director Alex J. Sinaga was on hands in the Telkom 1 satellite recovery process at the crisis center on Friday evening (29/08) during which he underlined why the whole operational team needs to focus on every efforts to speed up the customers migration process, both in terms of preparing the transponders replacement and repointing the satellite's antenna. Telkom is recovering the satellite services by migrating the customers to Telkom 2, Telkom 3S and other third-party satellites.

As of Wednesday (30/8) morning, the Telkom 1 satellite recovery process to provide satellite transponder substitute was almost 100% in accordance to the expected target. In general, the progress to provide transponders and repointing ground segment antennas have reached 55 percent and will continue in phases until 10 September 2017. Telkom 1 satellite has 63 customers with 29.26 Transponder Equivalent (TPE) and more that 15,000 sites. To date, the site recovery reached 1,000 sites everyday.

Based on intensive investigation that Telkom and satellite manufacturer Lockheed Martin conducted, Telkom 1 satellite will no longer be in operation and based on in-depth analysis, the satellite was not functioning as normal so that Lockheed Martin recommended to shut down the Telkom satellite operation to prevent interference with other satellites.

Telkom 1 satellite was launched on 13 August 1999 and was expected to have a 15-year life span. A joint assesment with Lockheed Martin in 2014 and 2016 showed that Telkom 1 satellite was in good condition and could be in operation with enough fuel for the next few years at least up to 2019.

Since 2016, Telkom has set a schedule to launch Telkom 4 satellite in mid 2018. The new satellite was expected to replace Telkom 1 satellite in 108 BT orbit slot. The Telkom 4 satellite has bigger capacity than the Telkom 1, in line with the increasing demand for transponders. As Telkom 1 is no longer in use, Telkom will closely monitor the progress towards the Telkom 4 launch so that it will remain on schedule.

As the Telkom 1 satellite service recovery is ongoing, Telkom management humbly requests the communities and customers support to pray for a smooth and sound recovery process until it is finished. The company expresses its gratitude for the support and trust that the customers and communities have on TelkomGroup's services.
