In early June 2020, Telenor CEO Sigve Brekke announced a new, more flexible way of work for Telenor employees. Here's a look at some of the commonly asked questions by new and prospective Telenor employees.

The post FAQ: Telenor's flexible way of work appeared first on Telenor Group. How is this 'flexibility' different from Telenor's previous way of work?

Telenor employees have always enjoyed a certain level of flexibility, with open zones, flat hierarchy, free seating and home office from time to time. With this more flexible direction, Telenor's CEO is encouraging each of the company's business units to explore increased flexibility for employees locally (and in close dialogue with their managers) based on the positive experiences while working from home during the COVID-19 crisis. Telenor will also draw on its colleagues in DNA Finland, who have experience doing this since 2012. Why is Telenor making this change?

Following the remote work experience during the COVID-19 crisis, Telenor employees have embraced new ways of work and report that they feel very motivated and productive. The company aims to continue this positive pattern and give employees flexibility beyond the crisis period. When does this new flexibility start for employees?

The practicalities and implementation of this new way of work will be handled locally, by each BU. Telenor has cultural differences in its nine markets and therefore, requires implementation plans that are adapted to local conditions and markets, in close contact with unions and employees. Does this flexibility mean that Telenor employees can work from anywhere?

Telenor's flexibility means different things in different countries. In DNA Finland, employees work from home a few days per week, whereas in other Telenor markets, there will be different solutions. The overall ambition is to find the right balance, continue to be people-focused, and continue the company's performance excellence. No matter what, employees will be available and actively participate in all meetings and discussions regardless of where they are. Working remotely, or from home, still means that employees are actively conducting their work and participating in team activities. Is it mandatory to work away from the office?

No. The key here is flexibility. Is there any evidence (outside of the COVID-19 crisis) that supports this way of work?

One of the main sources of inspiration for this flexibility is Telenor's newest family member, DNA. They introduced a flexible way of work in Finland back in 2012, with consistently positive results ever since, both in terms of company performance and employee satisfaction. Leading tech companies are also embracing flexibility, and Telenor's own internal pulse survey conducted in spring 2020, reported that employees are feeling more motivated and productive under the new 'work from home' circumstances.
