NORTHBROOK, Ill. (AP) _ Allstate Corp. (ALL) on Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings of $1.25 billion.

The Northbrook, Illinois-based company said it had profit of $3.86 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to $2.46 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.41 per share.

The insurer posted revenue of $11.2 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $10.49 billion.

Allstate shares have decreased 14% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen slightly more than 2%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $96.24, a drop of slightly more than 5% in the last 12 months.
