Northbrook, Ill., Aug. 7, 2018 - For the second consecutive year, Allstate has earned a spot on Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index, which recognizes companies for their diversity and inclusion efforts. Diversity Best Practices, a division of Working Mother Media, unveiled its second annual Inclusion Index, providing data and insight into how participating organizations fared in three areas: diversity and inclusion practices in recruitment, retention, and advancement; organizational culture; and demographic transparency. Allstate was among the 73 organizations that earned a place on this year's index.

'Allstate is honored to continue being a part of Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index,' said Christy Harris, Allstate vice president, human resources and inclusive diversity. 'One of our top priorities as a company is to embrace our differences and ensure everyone has a seat at the table. Recognition like the Inclusion Index continues to demonstrate that Allstate is a corporate leader in diversity and inclusion.'

This year, 124 organizations participated in the 2018 Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index, more than double last year's number. The results reveal opportunities for all organizations to implement more effective diversity and inclusion efforts.

Key findings from the 2018 Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index include:

  • Recruitment: Seventy-five percent of Index organizations require interview slates for job openings to have diverse applicants (compared with 58 percent of all participants). Ninety-three percent of Index organizations train recruiters to ask culturally competent questions of diverse applicants (compared with 75 percent of all participants).
  • Talent Development: Fifty-one percent of Index organizations have succession planning at top levels aimed specifically at women, racial/ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, veterans, and LGBTQ people (compared with 31 percent of all participants).
  • Company Culture: Seventy-eight percent of Index organizations provide special talent development programs for employees who become leaders of Employee Resource Groups (compared with 61 percent of all participants).
  • Accountability: Thirty-seven percent of Index organizations compensate managers for diversity and inclusion results (compared with 24 percent of all participants).

'It's wonderful to see how the DBP Inclusion Index has grown in its second year with more companies willing to share their progress and workforce demographics,' says Deborah Munster, executive director, Diversity Best Practices. 'We commend their transparency as they continue to strive for excellence in creating an inclusive environment for all employees.'

Inclusive diversity is one of Allstate's core values. The company's 11 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) foster an inclusive environment where all employees can work and perform at their highest levels. Allstate also establishes inclusive diversity commitments in every business unit to improve diversity in its talent recruiting efforts and on its leadership teams.
