WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 -- Compassion Over Killing issued the following news release:

Nine athletes powered by a vegan diet are rallying together for a dairy-free BOCA Foods brand, with a powerful letter sent to its parent company Kraft Heinz.

The Olympic athletes and sports pros united under the Switch4Good coalition have joined Compassion Over Killing (COK) in urging Kraft Heinz to "offer a healthier, more sustainable, and kinder BOCA brand by ditching dairy."

This inspiring team of stars includes:

* Dotsie Bausch, Olympic silver medalist, activist, team USA, cycling

* Rebecca Soni, 6-time Olympic medalist, team USA, swimming

* Todd Eldridge, Olympic figure skater, World Champion, 6-time US National Champion

* Kara Lang, Canadian Olympic soccer player, Canadian Hall of Fame

* Dustin Watten, Team USA volleyball

* Alexandra Paul, actress, activist, podcast host, Ironman athlete and swimmer

* Luke Tan, professional bodybuilder and author of AWAKE and Alive

* Mandy Gill, plant-based super athlete

* Chris Manderino, NFL player

Compassion Over Killing's campaign has also inspired nearly 50,000 petition signatures and the support of celebrities including actors Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) and Kimberly Elise (Diary of a Mad Black Woman).

BOCA is taking encouraging steps forward, first prompted by COK in 2010 to remove all eggs from its products and offer more vegan items. Since re-engaging BOCA about its continued use of dairy, COK's campaign has noted an 11% increase in vegan BOCA products!

Switch4Good, started by Dotsie Bausch, first sprang into action during the 2018 Olympics, premiering a commercial directed by Louie Psihoyos (The Cove) to bust the myths that dairy is healthy or necessary in order to thrive.

The athletes note that since cutting dairy from their diets and choosing vegan foods, they've "reaped enormous benefits: greater speed, faster recovery time, more endurance, and higher energy levels."

Their letter also refers Kraft Heinz to one of COK's heartbreaking dairy industry investigations, exposing the cruel cycle of systematic suffering endured by gentle cows used to produce milk. This cold industry is also miserable for calves, who are forcibly separated from their mothers so the milk meant for them can be sold for humans to drink instead.

As the athletes emphasize, though, many companies are realizing the soaring consumer demand for dairy-free foods and beverages, serving up options kinder to cows and healthier for consumers.

Yet, as 100% vegan rivals like Gardein and Beyond Meat serve a sizzling market, BOCA is still playing catch-up.

The athletes conclude their letter to Kraft Heinz, "Our taste buds have been delighted by your latest vegan offerings: the one-of-a-kind Turk'y Veggie Burger and Falafel Bites. But BOCA risks falling behind its competitors in the plant-powered revolution by clinging to cow's milk."
