Tokyo Electric Power Company
President Naomi Hirose

My deepest sympathies go out to the people of Fukushima and broader society for the continuing inconvenience and anxiety on account of the tragic accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

At this time, I must take this opportunity to announce that effective from September 1, the electricity rates for low voltage power service customers (residents, small to medium-sized commercial establishments and offices) will be subjected to an average 8.46% increase due to a significant rise in primarily thermal fuel costs. Given Japan's severe economic situation, I sincerely apologize for having to place this burden on our customers and the impact this may have on subsequent business activities.

After careful consideration of our customers' opinions and comments, we will do our very best to diversify the number of rate menu options and services, intensify business streamlining efforts and implement further cost reductions while ensuring power supply sustainability.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
