Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Toyota Tsusho), Toyota Tsusho Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (TTAP), and TOYOTA TSUSHO NEXTY ELECTRONICS (THAILAND) CO., LTD. (NETH) jointly established Toyota Tsusho Mobility Informatics Pte. Ltd. (TTMI) in Singapore on November 1, 2019 with the aim of engaging in R&D of technologies toward realizing connected services.
1. Background
The automotive industry is entering a once-in-a-century transformation period, and a new concept of interpreting mobility as a service has emerged.
MaaS (Mobility as a Service) is an integrated mobility service business that not only connects transport services of various modes seamlessly but also provides mobility and transport services that are efficient and convenient for users. The penetration of MaaS is expected to contribute to solving a wide range of social issues including traffic congestion and air pollution in large cities, as well as aging population and labor shortage.
2. Purpose of Establishing a New Company
One of the key elements in realizing MaaS is connected services, which require the application of advanced technologies.
TTMI, through the collaboration with the Toyota Tsusho Group and partner companies, will develop advanced technologies, such as machine learning and mathematical optimization technology, to provide connected services (provision of traffic congestion information, optimal delivery route planning, etc.) to mobility service providers including ride-hailing service providers and logistics service providers.
In addition, Singapore is a leading country in the application of MaaS, working nationwide on the development and penetration of next generation mobility projects that attract engineers with world-level technologies and expertise. TTMI will be based in Singapore and provide services in Japan as well as globally with a focus on Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and other regions that have large demand with market growth potential.
The Toyota Tsusho Group is promoting its next-generation mobility business based on the Next-generation Mobility Strategy that is designated as one of the focus areas of the Mid-Term Business Plan for FY2021.
The Toyota Tsusho Group will bring together its technologies and expertise in TTMI to offer services in the connected services market with the aim of contributing toward solving various social issues through the realization of its MaaS business.
