NEUSS - UPS (NYSE: UPS) yesterday handed over a donation check from the UPS Foundation, a $ 550,000 donation to Johanniter Accident Aid, for organizing UPS Road Code driver safety workshops in Germany and Austria. The Johanniter Unfall-Hilfe has been working with UPS since 2012 to organize safety training for novice drivers and young drivers.

* The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe eV receives a donation of 550,000 US dollars for the organization of UPS Road Code workshops for novice drivers and young drivers in Germany and Austria

* More than 58,000 novice drivers in seven countries have already participated in UPS Road Code training

* Check handover in the presence of Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer in the UPS Integrad training center for delivery staff in Cologne

The cooperation underlines the company's social commitment to pass on its expertise in the field of safe driving.

'UPS '125,000 deliveries are among the safest on the road worldwide. Each year, they drive more than 6 billion kilometers and deliver 5.2 billion packages, 'said Johannes Faller, UPS Operations Manager and Safety Officer for UPS Germany. 'Our experience in safe driving is the foundation of UPS Road Code. We are proud to contribute to better educating young drivers about responsible driving. With this donation, we continue our successful and long-standing cooperation with Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe. '

The road safety training courses are aimed at young people who have not yet completed their driving test or have recently obtained a driver's license - and thus the group that according to statistics is most frequently involved in accidents. In Germany and Austria, the workshops are conducted voluntarily by 19 experienced UPS delivery agents. The training content of the courses consists of eight modules and the Tarining has a total length of six hours.

Videos and exercises on computer-aided driving simulators familiarize novice drivers with dangerous situations and show, for example, how to distract by writing an SMS while driving or how the ability to react is adversely affected by the influence of alcohol. To date, more than 58,000 novice drivers have participated in UPS Road Code training courses in Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Mexico, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

'Traffic safety is not just part of my job - it is a real affair of the heart to me. Therefore, from the heart a big thank you to all who pass on their experiences honorary to novice drivers. Who could do that better than those on our roads every day? They are absolute role models! ', Said Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer.

Alexander Graf Neidhardt von Gneisenau, vice-president of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe eV, said at the handover: 'How important it is to sensitize novice drivers for safe and predictive driving, we learn every day in the rescue service. Risky behavior behind the wheel can be fatal. With the help of the UPS Road Code, we at Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe can actively contribute socially to better prepare young people for responsible driving. '

Before UPS deliverers make their first shipment, they learn the safe and defensive driving methods through the company's driving program. The driver training will continue throughout the duration of her work at UPS. The UPS Integrad training center has some of the industry's toughest safety training. At the two European Integrad locations (Cologne and Burton-on-Trent) virtual reality technology is used to give the carriers the opportunity to learn with the latest available methods.

The safest drivers of UPS are included in the so-called 'Circle of Honor'. The drivers of this circle have had no avoidable accident for 25 or more years. Currently, more than 10,364 delivery staff are members of the Circle of Honor. In Germany, there are currently 299 drivers.
