BASKING RIDGE, NJ - So, which network should you choose? The one ranked first by scientific drive tests, by crowdsourced data, by millions of real users or by beloved customers? Great news, you don't have to pick. Verizon wins across all types of tests. Verizon's network wins underscore a relentless focus on innovation and continued investment to give our customers the best.

Today, RootMetrics - the nation's most rigorous and scientific network testing organization - once again found Verizon's network undefeated in all six categories tested, including overall network performance, reliability, speed, data, call and text. This marks the 11th consecutive time Verizon has won in the RootMetrics overall network performance award, and 10th for fastest network.*

Here are the five ways we stay ahead of the pack:

  • We make the best technologies available to our customers
Our engineers have rolled out the latest LTE Advanced technologiesby combining carrier aggregation, 4x4 MIMO (antenna technology), and 256 QAM. These technologies offer much faster speeds, better connectivity, more bandwidth for customers and lay the groundwork for Verizon's next-generation 5G network.
  • We stay ahead of the curve
We've created platforms to encourage technological innovation: successfully testing 4G LTE technology over CBRSspectrum (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) on Verizon's live commercial network, driving XRAN Fronthaul standardsand adding voice capabilities to our CatM networkto offer even more IoT solutions choices.
  • We ensure reliability
Our network is built for reliability. From year-round planning for severe weather, to backup power at our switch locations and cell sites, to redundant fiber connections to prepare for emergencies, 24x7 staffed operations centers and a rigorous maintenance schedule, when you need to connect, we are ready.
  • We build to exceed our customers' needs
Our 4G LTE network, the largest in the U.S., covers more than 2.6 million square miles. To stay ahead of demand, our teams continue to build out small cells and in-building systems for our customers.
  • We're leading 5G deployment
We launched the world's first 5G Ultra Wideband Networkand 5G Home in parts of Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento. And we will expand broadband internet and 5G mobility service later this year.

'We're evolving and advancing our award-winning 4G LTE network, which will continue to be a workhorse for customers for years to come. Our 4G LTE network is so reliable and fast, one of our competitors has labeled their own 4G network 5G in an effort to keep up. Rest assured, real 5G mobile service from Verizon will represent a true step change for our customers,' said Mike Haberman, Verizon leader of network operations. 'Every wireless provider looks to claim their network is best. Only Verizon's network wins in every type of test regardless of methodology, from multiple independent vendors. What's more, we win year in, year out,' said Haberman.

Why do RootMetrics' tests matter?

Verizon is consistently recognized by multiple independent third parties for being the network that delivers the most reliable and powerful experience. RootMetrics conducts close to 4 million real world drive and indoor tests that cover more than 230,000 miles in all 50 states and in 125 metro areas. This methodology controls for user and phone bias by testing the networks side-by-side on the same device, at the same time and in the same area.

In 2019 alone, J.D. Power's Wireless Network Quality Performance Study, which uses customer surveys to determine the Best Network Quality, Verizon received more awards for network quality than any other provider 22 times in a row-that is over a decade of being number one.**

In addition, leading crowdsourced data providers, like Tutela and OpenSignal, use crowdsourced measurements from apps for their reports. OpenSignal named Verizon #1 in Video Experience, Latency Experience and Upload Speed Experience in its most recent report *** based on independent analysis of mobile measurements from real users. Tutela, which uses crowdsourced measurements from apps for their studies, found Verizon had 'the highest levels of consistency. P3 Communications awarded Verizon 'best in test,' reporting our network achieved the highest overall score in their nationwide network performance study, the P3 Mobile Benchmark US.
