May 16--Welcome to Walmart; want a job?

It's not the normal greeting. But the retail giant is definitely planning to hire up to 300 people for a new supercenter coming to West El Paso.

The store will be hiring both full-time and part-time associates and most new employees will begin work in July to help prepare the store for its grand opening in late summer.

"Our stores would not be successful without our associates," said Robert Hilburn, store manager. "El Paso is full of talented individuals and we'll build a great team to serve our customers."

The new store will be one of nine supercenters in El Paso. The city also has nine neighborhood markets and four Sam's Clubs.

Where to apply

The chain has set up a temporary hiring center at 7930 N. Mesa St., Suite B-14 through July 9.

Applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with expanded hours until 8 p.m. coming soon.

Interested applicants also may apply online. Enter facility number 05717 in the advanced search options.

According to a Walmart release, the store announced a nationwide increase in its starting wage rate to $11 an hour in January. Walmart's average hourly wage for full-time associates in Texas is $13.39, officials said.
