SYDNEY--Westpac Banking Corp. (>> Westpac Banking Corporation) director Carolyn Hewson will retire from the bank's board at the end of the month, the lender said in a statement on Wednesday.
Ms. Hewson, who also sits on the board of Australian mining giant BHP Billiton (>> BHP Billiton Limited), has been a director at Australia's second-largest bank by market value since 2003. Her departure on June 30 comes as part of the bank's director tenure limit of 10 years.
Ms. Hewson will continue to chair Westpac's charitable trust, the Westpac Foundation, after she steps down from the board.
"Carolyn has been an exemplar of Westpac's values, providing wise and thoughtful counsel, and always exhibiting the highest level of integrity and dedication," said Chairman Lindsay Maxsted.
