(Adds Wirecard response.)

TCI Fund Management Limited said Tuesday that it has filed a criminal complaint against Wirecard AG through the public prosecutor's office in Munich.

The London-based fund said the complaint stems from what it considers anomalies which may have criminal relevance arising from the recently published KPMG audit into allegations of accounting impropriety at Wirecard, as well as reports in the Financial Times and WirtschaftsWoche. It added that funds under its management hold a short position in Wirecard shares.

"This relates to the purchase of Hermes I Tickets Pte. Ltd. in India, the so-called 'third-party acquiring business' as well as the granting of loans within the scope of the so-called 'merchant cash advance business,'" TCI said.

Wirecard said it "regards the filing as a purely tactical manoeuvre of a short seller. In terms of content, we consider the complaint to be completely unfounded."
