Outstanding Apprentice Programme 2018: Zumtobel Group gives insight into its apprenticeships at the Long Night of Apprenticeships

• Currently 75 apprentices working in seven different training professions

Dornbirn, Austria - Last Friday evening, the apprentice workshop of the Zumtobel Group in Dornbirn once again opened its doors for the 'Long Night of Apprenticeships'. Many young people and adults came to find out about apprenticeships at the international lighting company.

Just a few days before, the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce had conferred the distinction of 'Outstanding Apprentice Programme' on the Zumtobel Group for its outstanding commitment to apprenticeships for the eighth time in a row. With 75 apprentices at the current time, the Zumtobel Group is one of the biggest training companies in the area. Not least of all because, since 1980, it has also been training girls in technical careers. In addition to the first ever female toolmaker in Austria in 1984, a further 72 girls have since completed their technical apprenticeships at the Zumtobel Group.

'Having trained a total of 798 apprentices since 1964, the Zumtobel Group has a long history in apprenticeships and is held in high regard in this respect. We are therefore delighted that we have been recognised with the 'Outstanding Apprentice Programme 2018' award, as this reflects our current commitment. In addition to a sound education, we consider it to be extremely important to help the young experts of tomorrow to strengthen their personal skills. The motivation and joy with which our apprentices engage in their work and also ran the Long Night of Apprenticeships, tell us that we are following the right path,' said Thomas Kresser, Head of Apprenticeship Training at the Zumtobel Group.

During the ' Long Night of Apprenticeships', prospective apprentices were able to chat to trainers and current apprentices. In a relaxed atmosphere, visitors were able to find out about the seven training professions of electrical engineering, electronics, mechatronics, plastics engineering, IT technology, metal technology and process engineering and gain an insight into the apprenticeships.

In addition, the up-and-coming talents of the Zumtobel Group demonstrated what they had already learnt directly at the workbenches and machines and gave the guests a tour of the company's in-house training workshop. That's where all apprentices start their intensive basic training. Later on they are able to gain experience in the different departments, giving them the best opportunity to discover their own strengths and interests.

During their in-depth apprenticeship training in one of the technical careers at the Zumtobel Group, the many practical tasks, projects and workshops give the apprentices a great deal of creative freedom, allowing them to become actively involved. With events such as the 'Long Night of Apprenticeships' as well as the open days for students from the eighth grade, the Zumtobel Group offers an insight into its courses and aims to get talented young people interested in an apprenticeship with the lighting group.
