Emerson Electric Co. on Monday said its long-time chief executive, David Farr, will retire on Feb. 5.

The St. Louis technology and engineering company said Lal Karsanbhai, who has served as executive president of its automation-solutions business since 2018, will become CEO and join the board on that date.

Emerson said Mr. Farr, who has been CEO since 2000 and chairman since 2004, will remain chairman through May 4. Mr. Farr joined Emerson in 1981.

Mr. Karsanbhai, 51 years old, has been with Emerson since 1995.
