Profile

Born in 1947 in Paris, he is the founder of Carmignac. He grew in Chile, where his father, former diplomat, was converted in the import-export. Edouard attended an English school until 12 years old. He got a degree in economics, and then he obtained an MBA at Columbia University in New York. Two years later, he became a partner at investment bank Eastman Dillon.

When he was not yet 30 years old, he was appointed Vice-director of the European Finance Corporation, in charge of financing mining and energy, two sectors he considers “intellectually stimulating”. During next five years he was broker at Georges Hamant, and in 1984 he launched Pyramid Management, before leaving his partners with important profits, which will invest in creation of Carmignac gestion.

Keen on diving and polo, a sport he loves to practice in UK, because he “loves to Kiss Queen Elizabeth II”, Carmignac nicknamed “Doudou” by his friends, never hesitates to invest against the current. As proof, the fund “Carmignac Patrimoine” had finished in positive in 2008, a catastrophic year for financial markets. With more than 10 billion euro in assets, it is one of the most transparent funds, publishing its performances each quarterly.
