--UniCredit SpA is considering candidates for the role of chief executive and has approached Andrea Orcel and Tidjane Thiam, among others, for a selection which should be made in the next four weeks, the Financial Times reports, citing people familiar with the process.

--Mr. Orcel is the former head of UBS's investment bank and would likely need to extricate himself from a lawsuit against Santander in order to win regulatory approval, while Mr. Thiam--Credit Suisse's former chief executive--hasn't decided yet whether to pursue the role, the newspaper reports.

--UniCredit declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Dow Jones News Wires.
