SHCM may utilize protective strategies using cash and derivative overlays but eschews short positions. They tend to take a long-term bias in the small- to mid-caps in their Asian and Japanese funds. Their joint closed-end fund invests in a mix of public and private equity in addition to special situations. They target a range of sectors such as oil and gas exploration and production, metals and mining, consumer-related, telecommunications, financial services, transport and logistics, as well as business services.
