The 5th edition of the ICON Awards was held last Wednesday, October 9, at Madrid's Royal Tapestry Factory, honoring outstanding achievement and creativity in the arts and journalism. The awards are given across a wide range of categories that is as diverse as the winners, who included talent from widely different generations and fields.

ICON, EL PAÍS's men's lifestyle magazine, seeks to strike a balance between the past, present and future, and this was reflected by the winners of the night. Late Motiv collaborator, writer and television critic Bob Pop received the ICON Award for Cultural Agitation, the first prize to be handed out at the ceremony, presented by his colleague and EL PAÍS team member Mikel López Iturriaga, head of El Comidista.

The ICON Music Prize went to rapper C. Tangana and was presented by another leading player on the Spanish music scene, the group Carolina Durante. Tangana remains one of the most famous Spanish rappers, thanks to albums like Idolo. He also sets trends in fashion and is legendary for his transgressive spirit. Another of the young winners was the actor Greta Fernández, who, at 24, 'is the actress with the brightest future in this country,' according to actor Maxi Iglesias. Fernández, who has already struck silver at the San Sebastian Film Festival for her role in La hija de un ladrón, won this year's ICON Film Award.

Anna Castillo, who last year won the ICON Award for Cultural Agitation, this year took home the ICON Woman of the Year Award. Jorge Suquet, known for his role as Professor Martín in Elite, presentef the award, with the help of Castillo's partner, Lara.

The musician Chenta Tsai introduced the ICON Literature Award, which this year went to the writer and philosopher Paul B. Preciado for his valuable contributions to queer theory and his reflections on gender identity - in keeping with the magazine's mission to embrace new masculinities

Meanwhile, the model and actor Andrés Velencoso, who received the ICON Fashion Award last year, was in charge of handing out this year's gong in the category to the model Oriol Elcacho.

The coveted ICON Television Award was presented by a glittering roll call of the Elite cast - Danna Paola, Mina El Hammani, Ester Expósito, Omar Ayuso, Georgina Amorós and Jorge López - who handed over the award to the creators of the Netflix series: Darío Madrona, Diego Betancor, Jaime Vaca and Dani de la Orden.

The awards ceremony concluded by honoring one of the greatest figures in the history of Spanish cinema, actress Marisa Paredes, who received the ICON Icon of the Year Award. EL PAÍS journalist Juan Cruz affectionately presented the award while lauding the career of this huge cultural icon.

The presenter Boris Izaguirre acted as master of ceremonies for this year's awards that paid tribute to figures who represent the true spirit of the publication: icons with personality, ingenuity and charisma who are revolutionizing the current cultural scene.

The ceremony was sponsored by Hyundai, Armani Code, Mar de Frades and Johnnie Walker, and also had the collaboration of Cervezas Alhambra.
