AYER, Mass. (AP) _ American Superconductor Corp. (AMSC) on Wednesday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $6.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Ayer, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 35 cents. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 32 cents per share.

The wind turbine component maker posted revenue of $17.9 million in the period.

American Superconductor shares have decreased 12% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $6.88, a fall of 45% in the last 12 months.
