GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (AP) _ Newmont Corporation (NEM) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $565 million.

The Greenwood Village, Colorado-based company said it had net income of 69 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 50 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 48 cents per share.

The gold and copper miner posted revenue of $2.97 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.81 billion, or $3.81 per share. Revenue was reported as $9.74 billion.

Newmont shares have climbed slightly more than 6% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased almost 5%. The stock has risen 34% in the last 12 months.
