The 10-team Bangabandhu Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament, a qualifying meet for the World Cup Hockey, will be held in Dhaka from June 4 to 12.

Ten participating countries are: India, Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, China, Bangladesh, Oman, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) named AL-Arafah Islami Bank as the title sponsor of the tournament at a function at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Sunday.

A memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and as well as with BHF and Al-Arafah Islami Bank at the function.

CEO of Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Tayeb-E-Iqram, BHF President Air Chief Marshal Mashiuzzaman Serniabat and Managing Director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank limited Farman R Chowdhury were present on the occasion alongside other top officials.

The logo of the tournament was also unveiled at the function.

China, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei and Oman have qualified from Asian Junior Hockey tournament held in Oman last December.

Remaining six teams have directly qualified as the best teams of last edition of Junior Asia Cup.

Top three teams will qualify for the Junior World Cup Hockey in India.

The AHC CEO Tayeb-E-Iqram said, 'Bangladesh has a good organizing capability, we do hope BHF will show their best performance again. Bangladesh will also host the Asian Champions trophy in November. '

Bangladesh will play in the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey as the host country while another five teams will be the top ranking five Asian countries. Earlier in 1985 and 2017, Bangladesh successfully hosted d Asia Cup Hockey.

Many international tournaments have been cancelled and rescheduled due to coronavirus affect. China is one of the participants in the Junior Asia Cup Hockey.

AHF CEO said, 'Of course it is most concern issue, June is at least three months far from now. We will observe the situation. We have a women's hockey tournament in Japan in April. If Japan can arrange the meet, I do hope Bangladesh can also do it June. '

Bangladesh Hockey Federation president said, 'It is a special moment for Bangladesh Hockey. We want to give our best in and off the field. I do hope our team will qualify for World Junior Hockey. '

It is learned from a reliable source that BHF will get taka two crore from Al Arafah Islami Bank for the tournament.
