In a group like Acerinox, which carries on its activities in more than 80 countries across five continents and is formed of people of different genders, cultures, religions and traditions, diversity and equality are valuable assets that enrich it and which it strives to promote and protect.

Acerinox goes beyond the legal requirements to promote diversity in all its operations, meeting the commitments made in this connection, which are mainly those arising from the collective bargaining agreements.

11% of the Group's workforce in the plants and at head office are women (women make up 45% of employees at head office) and, although these figures are above the average for the Spanish steel industry (7.7%) and for the sector in general (8.04%), we are not going to stop here and we are working to improve this figure. Furthermore, 14% of women who work in the company hold the position of Head of Section or Director, compared to 8% of all male employees.

Acerinox promotes the hiring of women in pursuit of equality, but above all to boost efficiency, improve processes with new ideas and recruit talent by hiring qualified professionals from engineering schools, technical training centres and professional schools. In short, Acerinox pursues equality to strengthen its leadership as the most global and competitive company in the industry. For this purpose, Acerinox has collaboration agreements with more than 30 universities and study centres in four continents.

María López Álvarez, winner of the IV Acerinox Prize

On 20th February 2020, the IV Acerinox Prize awards ceremony took place, a prize awarded to university students who dedicate their final degree or master's project to the use of, research on or development of stainless steel, with an economic prize of €3,000.

This year, the winner was María López Álvarez for her final project for her master's in Structural & Construction Engineering titled 'Assessment of the effects of geometric and material non-linearity in stainless steel frames' led by professors Itsaso Arrayago Luquin and Esther Real Saladrigas from the School of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona. The prize was awarded by Bernardo Velázquez, CEO of Acerinox, at an event held at the faculty's events hall.
