Amman - Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (Hikma Group), the multinational pharmaceutical company, announces a four-year, $100,000 commitment annually to Save the Children in Jordan to support the Transforming Refugee Education towards Excellence (TREE) initiative, a programme with the mission to equip Jordanian teachers with skills to deliver effective teaching, strengthen teachers' resilience to trauma, and help students suffering from trauma overcome challenges.

Launched in 2019, TREE aims to benefit 1,350 teachers and reach 745,000 individuals over five years through a systems-wide teacher-training programme centred on incorporating compassion into education. TREE is an initiative of Save the Children and the MIT Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) in cooperation with the Jordanian Ministry of Education, Community Jameel and Dubai Cares.

Hana Darwazeh Ramadan, Global VP of Corporate Social Responsibility at Hikma, said: 'We are looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Save the Children in Jordan to support the TREE initiative.

By collaborating to improve the quality and scope of education, we can positively impact the lives of millions of displaced populations and refugees.'

Save the Children CEO Kevin Watkins said: 'We are thrilled about our new partnership with Hikma Pharmaceuticals. They are strengthening a ground-breaking programme that provides crucial assistance to teachers in Jordan and the refugee children they teach. We are proud of our cross-sector partnerships that make this impact for children possible, including philanthropists and foundations like Community Jameel and Dubai Cares, the Jordanian government, and now the private sector through Hikma Pharmaceuticals.'

Hassan Jameel, President, Saudi Arabia, of Community Jameel, said: 'We are proud to welcome Hikma Pharmaceuticals as a new partner in the TREE programme, which is driving long-lasting change for young people in Jordan. Hikma's support will further enable TREE's important work in fostering psychological wellbeing and safer learning for children affected by trauma'.

About Save the Children

Save the Children stand side by side with children in the toughest places to be a child. We do whatever it takes to make sure they survive, get protection when they're in danger, and have the chance to learn. Together, we fight for children every single day. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world and help to build a better future.

About Community Jameel

Driven by a commitment to creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth, Community Jameel works across six major fields of development: livelihoods, the arts, education, health, climate, and evidence. Community Jameel is active worldwide, by directly implementing programmes and by collaborating with major international institutions and grassroots organisations.

Community Jameel was established in 2003 to continue the Jameel family's tradition of supporting the community, a tradition started in the 1940s by the late Abdul Latif Jameel, founder of the Abdul Latif Jameel business, who throughout his life helped tens of thousands of disadvantaged people improve their lives. The term 'Community Jameel' refers broadly to several distinct, separate and independent legal entities. Community Jameel is not itself a corporate entity, association or conglomerate run by an overarching parent company but merely refers to a group of distinct and wholly independent separate legal entities that are collectively referred to as 'Community Jameel'.
