SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ Meta Financial Group Inc. (CASH) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $52.3 million.

On a per-share basis, the Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based company said it had net income of $1.45. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 94 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.58 per share.

The holding company for Meta Bank posted revenue of $199.9 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $188.3 million, which beat Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $177.7 million.

Meta shares have fallen 53% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $17.11, a drop of 24% in the last 12 months.
