LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Hope Bancorp Inc. (HOPE) on Tuesday reported first-quarter profit of $26 million.

The Los Angeles-based bank said it had earnings of 21 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 24 cents per share.

The bank holding company posted revenue of $180.1 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $132.6 million, exceeding Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $122.8 million.

Hope Bancorp shares have fallen 37% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $9.38, a decrease of 31% in the last 12 months.
