BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) _ Homology Medicines Inc. (FIXX) on Thursday reported a loss of $35.3 million in its first quarter.

The Bedford, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 78 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 76 cents per share.

The gene editing company posted revenue of $588,000 in the period.

Homology Medicines shares have declined 40% since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 45% in the last 12 months.
