ST LOUIS (AP) _ Centene Corp. (CNC) on Tuesday reported second-quarter profit of $1.21 billion.

The St. Louis-based company said it had profit of $2.05 per share. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and costs related to mergers and acquisitions, were $2.40 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.41 per share.

The healthcare company posted revenue of $27.71 billion in the period, exceeding Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $27.38 billion.

Centene expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.76 to $4.96 per share, with revenue in the range of $109 billion to $111.4 billion.

Centene shares have climbed 7% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 29% in the last 12 months.
