Last week, Vale Moçambique and several supplier companies provided the city of Moatize (province of Tete) with more than 11,000 masks to help them tackle the pandemic of the new coronavirus. This joint action of the Social Vale's Supplier Platform brings together, in this initiative, six companies that work with Vale - IFS, CIS, EPIROC, EIS, BUREAU VERITAS, and JFS.

Most of the masks have been made by local companies from Moatize and Maputo, and they will be distributed to health care professionals and the population in general. Carlos Portimão, the mayor of Moatize, stated that 'This support came in handy at a time when schools are reopening. So, a large amount of these masks will be destined to the schools of Moatize.'

Salvador Zacarias, representative of the Moatize administrator, congratulated Vale and its partners for being active players in social support. 'As a government, we appreciate this donation that will boost our strategies in tackling the spread of COVID-19. We will prioritize the high-risk areas and the neediest populations that cannot afford a mask', added Salvador Zacarias.

The Social Vale's Supplier Platform is composed of several supplier companies whose purpose is to cooperate in joint social actions in Moatize. This platform brings Vale and suppliers together as promoters of social actions to develop and expand the social impact in the region.

Attentive to the evolution of the pandemic in Mozambique and worldwide, Vale reiterates its commitment to continue contributing to the health and well-being of the communities surrounding its operations, investing in the prevention and safety of the populations and its employees. Vale complies with all recommendations from the health authorities and the World Health Organization, helping to mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus in Mozambique.
