Jack in the Box has opted to run its entire chain infrastructure on Amazon Web ServiceI Inc., as part of the chain's efforts to offer cloud-based experiences for its more than half a billion customers annually. Jack in the Box migrated from its on-premises data centers to AWS, which has improved its IT infrastructure's performance while also boosting the system's operational efficiencies, according to a news release.

Moving its former databases to Amazon's Relational Database Service and Amazon Redshift allowed the QSR to automate IT administration tasks, including hardware provisioning, database setup, patching, and backups, while also reducing software and hosting costs. Franchises also have access to a common operational dashboard to track sales, inventory, food safety and labor patterns.

"We pride ourselves on being a leader in fast-food innovation, offering customers creative new menu items and the ability to customize their meals. … " Drew Martin, Jack in the Box CIO said in the release. "AWS gives us the ability to be a more flexible, resilient and data-driven organization, which is essential for our business to understand and adjust to the impacts of challenges such as COVID-19, flexibly scaling and contracting our resources to optimize how we operate."

Jack in the Box is also planning to help its restaurants predict customer traffic and improve service times and food costs in the future through other services within its AWS partnership, the release said. Likewise, as the pandemic has prompted more frequent mobile app and delivery service through the brand, it has future plans to use another AWS service to personalize food and drink recommendations and suggestions, according to the release.

Jack in the Box Inc. is based in San Diego and has more than 2,220 restaurants in 21 states.
