Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. is Singapore's most diverse company in terms of board representation, according to an inaugural ranking of companies listed on the Singapore Exchange launched by Willis Towers Watson and the Singapore Institute of Directors.

The Board Diversity Index ranks companies based on eight dimensions, including gender, age and cultural ethnicity of board members, Willis Towers Watson said Wednesday.

Singapore Exchange Ltd. and Mapletree Commercial Trust took the second and third spots in the overall ranking. Mapletree led the ranking of real estate investment trusts, while Mewah International Inc. was ranked as the No. 1 mid-capitalization company and took fourth place overall.

"Companies have the transformative power and social responsibility to contribute to a more open, diverse and inclusive society," said Shai Ganu, managing director at Willis Towers Watson. "A diverse board sets the tone at the top of the organization."
