Armarda's associate CMSCG to increase mobile satellite airtime capacity through hiring of at least one more E1 line
Rapidly increasing airtime usage by subscribers since launch of '1349' mobile satellite service in early April
Successful partnership between Thuraya, CMSCG and CTS lead to rapidly increasing airtime usage
Singapore, 24 July 2013 - China Mobile Satellite Communications Group Limited ("CMSCG" or "the Group"), announced today that the Group is going to increase its calling capacity by hiring at least one more E1 line. This is in line with the Group's 15 July 2013 announcement of rapidly increasing usage of mobile satellite airtime via its '1349' service.
CMSCG has launched its
'1349' mobile satellite SIM
cards in early April this year together with China
Telecom Satellite ("CTS"), a
subsidiary of China Telecommunications Corporation.
As part of their joint marketing efforts, CMSCG and CTS are promoting Thuraya mobile satellite handsets and mobile satellite airtime services to key Chinese distributors.
As stated in the announcement dated 15
July 2013, in June 2013, CMSCG achieved a more
than two fold increase in mobile satellite airtime of over 30,000 minutes by its subscribers, as compared to approximately 14,000 minutes recorded in May 2013. Based on Thuraya's technical team's recommendation, CMSCG will increase
its mobile satellite bandwidth to accommodate the rapid airtime usage growth from its subscribers.
CMSCG will be hiring an additional E1 line to their current mobile satellite connection to regulate satellite airtime capacity between the Thuraya-owned satellites and the virtual gateway used by CMSCG to provide secure satellite airtime services to its China-based enterprise user base.
Jimmy Zhang, Chief Executive Officer of CMSCG commented on the announcement, "Since the launch of the sales of 1349 SIM cards in early May, we had received positive responses to Thuraya's products and services, which provide network connectivity in the remote areas not being covered by conventional cellular networks. This has lead to the rapidly increasing mobile satellite airtime usage by our enterprise subscriber base. With our rapidly increasing airtime usage, our existing single E1 line will soon be insufficient. As such, we are hiring at least one more E1 line which will double our mobile satellite airtime capacity.
Going forward, we hope to continue to increase our handset and SIM card sales, which will in turn drive our mobile satellite airtime sales. We envisage demand for our mobile satellite phones and airtime in China to continue to grow rapidly through our successful partnership with CTS and Thuraya."
