Toronto stocks finished slightly lower Tuesday, as the S&P/TSX Composite Index lost 13 points, or 0.1%, to 16502. The blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 Index added less than 1 point to close at 988.

One of the top gainers of the day was Aurora Cannabis, with shares up 4% after the cannabis company said it would acquire the remaining interest in Hempco Food and Fiber not already owned by Aurora. Hempco provides hemp-based foods and hemp fiber and produces and markets the brands Planet Hemp and Praise.

Another top gainer was marijuana company Canopy Growth, which said it planned to acquire Cañamo y Fibras Naturales SL, a cannabis company based in Spain, for an undisclosed amount of cash. Canopy Growth shares gained 2.1%.

The energy and metals sectors weighed on stocks, with Yamana Gold losing 7.3% after recently saying it is selling its Chapada mine to Lundin Mining.
