Metals and Mining Companies Leads Canadian Stocks Higher

Toronto stocks finished slightly higher Monday, as the S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 34 points or 0.2% to 16515. The blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 Index added 3 points, or 0.3%, to 987.

Among the top gainers was Lundin Mining, which announced its plans to acquire Yamana Gold's Chapada copper mine in Brazil for more than $1 billion, including $800 million in cash. Lundin Mining shares gained more than 8%.

Other top gainers of the day included Osisko Gold Royalties, up 4%; Ivanhoe Mines, up 3.3%; and Endeavour Mining, up 3.3%.
