S&P 500 : Some signs of short-term fragility

The Sino-American arm-wrestling match, which has been dormant for a few months, is returning intensely to the forefront of the financial scene. This is enough for the S&P 500’s underlying trend to experience a first significant blockage.

Among the components of the index, some large caps show significant declines such as Microsoft at -4%, or Apple at -3.4%. On the other hand, Amazon is showing resilience by giving up only 0.25%. Jeff Bezos' company is therefore close to becoming the world's leading company in terms of capitalization.

Graphically, in daily data, prices return to the 50-session moving average, confirming a marked decline from the highest (2945 points at the end). This decline duplicates the movement of last March when prices repositioned on 2740 points to start again largely on the rise.

The behavior of the index will therefore have to be carefully monitored because a break in the 2850-point support zone would result in a downward target of 2800 points and then, by extension, 2745 points.

On the other hand, in the event of a takeover of the buying power, the hope of testing the recent highs at 2950 points would regain strength. In any case, volatility will remain.
