The technology sector fell sharply as traders retreated from the areas of the stock market perceived to be the most sensitive to global economic growth.
In one sign that the semiconductor industry could be irrevocably changed even if the U.S. and China resolve their differences, researchers found that Huawei Technologies' latest smartphone, which it unveiled in September, contained no U.S. parts.
That finding was based on analysis by UBS and Fomalhaut Techno Solutions, a Japanese technology lab, who took the phone apart, as reported earlier.
