Shares of power producers rose as investors rotated into a sector that usually fares well during prolonged periods of low interest rates.

The SPDR Select Sector Utilities exchange-traded fund, which tracks the utilities sector of the Standard & Poor's 500, has cut its losses for the year to date to around 10%, before accounting for a hefty dividend.
